A Message of Unity Across Moldovian community worldwide – Chanukah 5776

Each night of Chanukah the Great Chabad Synagogue of Moldova hosted a festive Menorah lighting. The place was filled with professionals, students and families, for a joyous Chanukah celebration, complete with traditional ‘sufganiot’ – doughnuts. This Chanukah marked 26 years of Chabad in Moldova.

Spreading the light of Chanukah in downtown Kishinev, Mr. Simcha Buzor, Chabad representative, and Mr. Emil Grinshpon lit the grand menorah. Rabbi Shmuel Zalmanov then spoke about the day and sang Hanerot Halalu before of thousands of passerby’s.

The Chabad rabbinical students traveled to Bendery to put together a wonderful holiday party that attracted others from nearby towns. This menorah lighting and moving Mincha prayer, left everyone with a deep feeling of Jewish pride. Despite the difficulties of border crossing, these young shluchim also traveled to Tiraspol to share Jewish pride and unity during the year of Hakhel.

A Chanukah party took place in Tel Aviv for Moldova/Bessarabia immigrants and community members. The party was held at a fancy and traditional Moldovan restaurant. Dignitaries and Israel’s Moldovan Association members joined from all over the country, including the cities of Ashdod, Ashkelon, Ganei Tikva, Rishon Letzion, Netanya, Bat Yam and Holon. The party began with a grand menorah lighting. Many attended, including those who were not yet familiar with the Chanukah story. News channels in both Moldova and Israel broadcasted this big event. Dignitaries and ambassadors of Moldova and Israel were honored in lighting the menorah. Together with Rabbi Menachem Zalmanov, grandson of chief Rabbi to Moldova, Rabbi Zalman Abelsky obm, the audience committed to doing more good deeds, including men donning tefillin, giving charity and observing more mitzvot.
