Chabad Soup Kitchen – Nurtures the Community
We are the principal source of nutrition for many Jewish households. We partner with local vendors and distributors, and receive weekly pallets of kosher grocery staples, produce and meats to our headquarters. Our teams of volunteers sort, pack and deliver these packages of food to the homes of Kishinev’s eldery and indigent.
In Europe’s poorest Jewish community, a hot nutritious meal cannot be taken for granted. Our dedicated staff prepares some 30,000 fresh, hot meals each year. These meals are prepared daily and served on-site at our dining room in the Valea Dicescu district in central Kishinev, where guests can dine in a dignified and private setting.
In Moldova, kosher food is difficult to find and prohibitively expensive. Our kosher food cooperative is the principal importer of kosher food products and manufactures kosher dairy products domestically. This cooperative offers artificially low prices, and has restored the practice of keeping kosher in Moldova.
In addition, the organization sources dry grocery, produce and meats for home delivery to 300 households. Pallets of food are delivered to our headquarters where they are divided, packed and delivered by dedicated volunteers to the homes of the elderly and indigent of Kishinev’s Jewish community.
Our mission is simple and it’s impact is powerful: to feed Moldova’s impoverished Jewish community.
